Call of Duty XP

The Call of Duty XP Championship was one of the most important events at CoD: XP 2016. The Championship was a fanfare event for competitive E-gamers all around the world and held at the historical Los Angeles arena, the Forum. The Championship consisted of 32 teams all vying for the title of Call of Duty champions and for the largest prize pool money in Call of Duty Championship history; a whopping $2,000,000.

Concept

The client asked us to find a way to put a main stage plus 3 auxiliary competition stages that could be used for presentations and live music performances as well as studio and shoutcaster booths into a single arena.

Design

We focused on creating areas separated from Sound and Light bleed, while finding a balance between a dynamic live event and a global stream that would translate into the audience’s homes.

Plan

The Technical design created a main stage and three intimate separate gaming areas. Main event teams were staged in elevated booths that flanked the performance stage. The booths featured massive video walls that closed during performances giving a dramatic look for the competition both in person and on the global stream.

Execute

Hugely successful and well attended for both the live event and global broadcast. World famous Snoop Dogg performed live in the arena and prize money was awarded to much fanfare.
